Development of hybrid electrodeposition/slurry diffusion aluminide coatings on Ni-based superalloy with enhanced hot corrosion resistance

Ni/Co-modified aluminide coatings were prepared on Hastelloy-X superalloy by a combined process of electrodeposition and slurry aluminizing. In this regard, pure layers Ni Ni-50wt.%Co initially applied via successive aluminization was carried out technique. The microstructural chemical composition characterization the specimens revealed that compact dense coating formed with two-layered structure containing outer Al-rich b phase inner interdiffusion zone. Moreover, presence pre-electrodeposited inhibited outward diffusion flux elements from substrate effectively suppressed formation Kirkendall pores. hot corrosion studies obtained indicated addition layer could enhance high-temperature performance when exposed to sulfate salt.
